Back to the blog!

Hi, my lovelies!

It's been 3 years since I last posted here, and I truly missed this place!

A lot of things have changed over these 3 years! And I can't wait to share it all with you guys!

First things first, I'm back for good, and in the next few months, there. will be some upgrades to the blog, the website as well as all social media, so Katie's Corner is coming back with reviews, book promotions, manga reviews, and other material full force! The blog will be fully operational from January 2022. For now, do check out my goodreads profile (I may not have been posting reviews here, but I was reading books ^_^) and there will be reviews every week or every two weeks! I'm also planning something major, but first I need to actually put a solid plan on this, but I'll keep you updated!

So... as some of you know (those who follow my Instagram account I started working back in September 2018 at an accounting firm, and because I also had to do a qualification for my certificate, there was just not enough time to keep my blog active. Truthfully, there were days, when I just wanted to read the book, and while I did want to review it, I just couldn't no words were coming, so I was in a reviewer slump if you can call it that. I never stopped reading, I actually switched to reading lots of manhwa and webnovels (which I will most certainly be talking about), but books were not part of my pass-time. I needed something to short circuit my brain, so I could fall asleep, and get over my habit of reading and realising that it's 7am, and I need to go to work.

And on October 2021, I have officially finished my qualification, hence I can focus my undivided attention to my blog, and expand it to include new features!

One thing for sure that you'll notice, is that the Blog design has changed (Yes, I actually went from my Blue-green design to white-blue one, which I love, and hope you'll love it too!). The book reviews will now be in more condensed format. All links will be bringing you to Goodreads, so you can. check out other's reviews, etc!

I will be posting more updates and news in the coming weeks, so do check it out and as it goes: Let's get it started...

Happy New Year!!!

Hello Dear Readers!

Yes, I'm back for a day or two to wish you all a Happy New Year and so that you'll have a fantastic year coming and that it will be full of wonderful things!

2018 has been a challenging year for me,  but at the same time it was a year of many new doors opening for me, and I am very grateful for all the opportunities that I received!

First of all, if you've been following my facebook or better said Instagram, as I pretty much moved over there :D I've finished my master degree and started a full-time job at prestigious company, hence,  as I've mentioned way back when I went on a hiatus from the blog, I might have returned, but the job is too demanding right now, hence I don't really have time to continue my reviews. I am still reading, and am still writing reviews, but I don't have time to post them, which is a pity, as I've been reading many many interesting books, and I would like for you to read them as well! But for those of you who have been following me on Goodreads, you might be seeing the reviews over there. I do need to reconcile the reviews there and over here one day, but it's too much to do right now...

So what are my goals for 2019? First of all, find a good balance between work, my blog and personal life. Apparently, this should not be a myth, and I am eager to find this balance! If I will, I will definitely tell you about it! Secondly, I am thinking of changing a lot of things over here, to make it easier to post, though I may lose the unique layout of reviews that I created, I am ready to sacrifice it until the good times come around, as it takes too long for me to create a post, and I may be actually using Goodreads review layout to post here, tell me what you think about that. I will be adding some of my own design in the layout, but it will be fairly simple and will focus on the review, rather than on other things.

I have other projects in progress, which may only see the daylight once I am sure people need such a project, hence I am entering a market research phase, which will go for at least half a year. As for my second baby apart from my blog - KC Book Promotions, this project that I started to see whether it could survive on skills I got from university, is still alive, and is already 3.5 years old. In a year and a half, we'll be celebrating our 5 year anniversary. I am super excited about that! While the blog was on a full-blown hiatus, the company has been working on small projects here and there, and I am very proud of what we have achieved, with only me, 2 hours per week and sometimes even less, and lots of dedication!

I think I'm straying off the topic, but it's been so long since I wrote over here, and I missed it a lot! But anyway, I wish you all Happy New Year! May all your wishes come true and you have a joyful year ahead of you!

XOXO

Is it Time to say Good-bye?

Hello, my faithful readers,

yes, I know there are not a lot of you, I don't even know if at least one or two of you are left that constantly read my reviews, if yes, give me a sign! I'd love to hear from you!

As you know I am currently pursuing my master's program, and it's as tough as hell. Thank God for my scheduling of all posts back in summer, when I had some type of free time, that's the only reason why blog seems active with reviews appearing every week.

I hope all my readers will understand this, as this is a crucial time for me and for my future career, and while I love my blog, as if I have given birth to it, actually I have, though I believe it wasn't as painful, if I gave birth to an actual baby... Okay, I'm totally off topic now, and you're losing the thread here. *you're not the only ones... * giggles.

While the blog was born in August 2013, on 19th if we want to be exact, during my Bachelor's I have taken quite some time off it as well, due to exams, and at one point, because I ran out of pre-written reviews, and had to take some time off to catch up on reading and writing. Now, the case if different. I have quite a lot of reviews written both in manga and book section, you can just look at this folder:

x photo
Yeah, I know, there's another folder on my laptop where there are other electronic versions, as one of my resolution of 2017 was to go more paper-free. But I already had all of those reviews written so now I need to find time to upload them to the electronic format.

Now, I know that you are thinking. Ah, she'll just take a break until summer and will be back then. That's where the BIG NEWS are coming in!

The Blog will be closed until further notice.

And I'm sorry to say this, but I have no idea when that further notice will be. It may truly be in Summer 2018, but I highly doubt it, as I will be in the middle of writing my Master's Thesis and then once again relocating from Netherlands to my traineeship location. And if you have any idea what ACCA trainees go through you'll know that I won't have time to do anything except study for exams and work. And hopefully sometimes for a weekend escape and a movie night with friends. Thus, It may take years, for my blog to be back in full.

Are you as sad as I am? Thank you, guys! It means a lot to me. But if you think that I will delete the blog, that's highly doubtful, as I want everyone to read my reviews and find their next favourite book or manga. Also, if you are wondering about my side project of KC Book Promotions, that one will be still functioning. It's not a very major Book Promotions platform, thus I hope I will still manage it and you'll find new books by visiting the website or facebook page!

Another reason, why I want to close the blog, is because I want once again to be enjoying reading, and not read in order to write the review. I have been seeing this last 2 month, I have gone back to my carefree reading, where I am not focused on writing a review after I finish either the book or manga. I hope you understand this. I love writing reviews, however, when I was on my campaign to write as many reviews as possible so I can share them with you, the whole process started to feel like an obligation, and I don't want it to be that way.

You know what of a bookworm I am, thus, I will be still reading books, and sometimes, when I am too amazed or too repulsed you'll see my outbursts! Where? On Goodreads! so don't forget to follow me there! And one thing that I will do is transfer the reviews that I solely wrote there to blog, hence, the blog will be active once in a while. You won't be seeing a manga review every Monday nor book review every Thursday, no more recommendations on the facebook page, and even every day memes will be missing. But I'll still try to keep the blog as well as the FB page alive, with posting now and then.

Now, if you've come here, that's some dedication to reading my writing... Thanks! I appreciate it a lot! So, before I finish this post, let me sum up everything!

1. The blog isn't closed forever!
2. I'll be back!!!! (Don't know when, but I promise I will be!!!)
3. Follow me on Instagram and Goodreads to see pictures of my trips, random things, etc, and of course what books I'm reading, etc!
4. KC Book Promotions will be still working, so check back to www.kcbookptomotions.com to see some new books!
5. I love you all! and I'll be back! sorry for repeating myself!

XOXO

Opening Up Summer Review Season!

Hi Everyone!

It's been around 9 months since I was heavily active on my blog! True, there were a number of tours that I was organising through KC Book Promotions, however, I was inactive in the respect of books that I myself wanted to feature on the blog!

Just Another Random Post #5: Saturday After Exams 101

Hi there!

Have you been missing me? I absolutely did. I know I'm a total clutz for missing to write Christmas and New Year's posts. Forgive me? *pleads with puppy-dog eyes....

Anyway, as you have guessed from the title, I am finally done with my finals, and I have around one week to get myself together to start my final semester as a bachelor student. Yahoo!!!! No, I'm not talking about the website here....

Well, ideally, when this idea came my head it had a fantastic outline, but now I can't seem to find it. Thus, let's be as random as possible!

Let's start with yesterday, to outline some of the things I did.

  1. Woke up @ 7 am
  2. ate my breakfast
  3. wrote the first exam @ 8:30 am it was Financial Management if you are wondering
  4. went back home
  5. started to study for another one
  6. got fed up with the worst text-book ever
  7. finally went to write the second exam @ 6:30 pm
  8. let's omit some staff, and jump to the one thing I had done before I went to bed.
  9. Did a 16-17 minute Yoga before bedtime session!
Yes, the last part is what I want to focus on. But let me jump to today. It's not even 2 pm yet, I have done quite a lot. First of all, you'll think that because I was tired after all those exams, I wouldn't have gotten out of bed before 12, ideally, that could have been true, but I am trying to stick to my new year's resolutions! Chips and candies have no place at my home, and I'm aiming to start doing workout every day, even if it's a short one! Thus comes today's not complete schedule!

  1. woke up @ 9 am
  2. did the morning cleaning rituals :D
  3. did a 17-20 minute morning yoga session, yup, all my joint were reawaken, and I was feeling a boost to keep me going.
  4. ate my breakfast.
  5. as I had around 30-40 minutes before Body Combat session in the gym, instead of watching a TV-show, I diligently put on my favourite collection of Bleach Soundtrack, you can find the video below, and completed one of my freelance jobs!
  6. Was right on time to a session of Body Combat, and the instructor who hasn't seen me in weeks, was having fun, because once again she was introducing a new routine, meaning I was bound to die... But I survived, barely let's say.
  7. I am finally home, writing this post.
  8. My lunch will be in an hour, and once again in stead of putting on a TV show, I will start writing those articles I need to do for my Internship. I have totally neglected it because of exams, but my boss gave his agreement.
Thus, I will be finishing up soon, but before I do, Let me tell you that I am a beginner at yoga, so, I would need someone to follow! It's true you can find tons of videos on Youtube, and I did. However, I use the app called Fitstar: Yoga that syncs perfectly with my Fitbit and Apple health. The sessions are tailored, for me, and the instructor is great. I also use another app from the same company it's Fitstar: Personal Trainer. That one is simply fabulous! I would recommend it to anyone, as I know it's tiresome to think of the routine or actually following it, however, here, everything is timed, you get tips, and you really think that the instructor is right beside you not in your phone or laptop.

If you got interested, you could find all the information on this website. If you already are in the community let's connect and encourage each other!

Oh, I nearly forgot, here' the one of the best mixed of Bleach OST:

Anyway, I'll be off, to write those articles and then have my lunch!

XOXO

Just Another Random Post #4: My I'm Definitely Gonna Watch These Animes of 2017

Hi, there!

How've you been? I'm finally on my winter recess, but I can't say I'm enjoying it a lot. Truthfully, I'm still in work both on my internship and on projects that I need to complete. Oh, and let's not forget that the fist exam is on 9th of January, and I need to study for it very, very hard....

Anyway, why am I even wasting my time doing this post? Well, I've been watching some youtube videos about upcoming animes, so I thought, why not create a post about the animes I'm waiting for! Most of them are either mainstream or sequels, but there are some that I'm truly anticipating, but at the same time dreading, as I don't work my favourite mangas to turn bad...

Did you know that my favourite manga Orange got an anime adaptation, but I have yet to see the anime? How come? I have seen so many of the memes showing a bad drawing that I just can't start watching it... pathetic? Maybe, but I just can't make myself watch something that I have high hopes for, and then be disappointed.

Well, I've been boring you with all of this, so now, comes the list of what I'm definitely going to watch in 2017! There's no order of preference, as I'm waiting for all of them. The order is in release date :)

Just Another Random Post #3: Finally Watching NERVE

Hello, everyone!

Missed my random sessions? I did, initially, I already wanted to do at least two, but somehow, I just never got to it.

So, now you're wondering what's today's random post about? well, this movie was on my to-read-watch list as soon as I saw the trailer and been waiting for it since it came out, that was somewhere in fall if I'm not mistaken. Now you think why only now? Well, I couldn't find the HD quality on my favourite web-site. it was finally when I submitted all my assignments and even got myself sick that I finally sat down and watched it.

I was not disappointed, I expected it to be great, and it was. you might think it doesn't have any deep idea, but let me be wrong here, it does, and that's "think before you do something!" I love Emma Roberts and this was an awesome movie! I could even say that I loved her since I was a kid, okay a teenager, and I never miss any of her movies.

I remember when I was reading Delirium, it didn't quite appeal to me, however, after I watched the pilot episode of it with Emma Roberts as the main character, I even had the urge to finish reading the series! In the book I hated Lena, but in the movie, she appealed to me a lot. What did you think? Or have you watched it yet?

Anyway, if you haven't watched Nerve yet, and want to know what's it about, here's the trailer!

Have fun watching, and don't forget to share your thoughts below!

Just Another Random Post #2 Halloween Maddness

Trick or treat?

I'll choose to spend the afternoon at the beach...

And yup, I'm there :D those are my fret in the picture, but i doubt you can see them :D :D

Anyway, getting back to today's random topic. It's haloween week, and it's truly a madness... Starting from wednesday there are paties everywhere, and my fantastic excuse not to party was: I'm too lazy to dress up :D

Successfully dodging at least 5 parties i still got tangled up at one with my family. I wouldn't really call it a party, as it was us going to a weekend escape. Esencially i just wanted to sleep at home, but as it was a long one, and i wouldn't be able to see my little bro for next few weeks due to exams i went with the flow.

The friday was without any real fun, if we don't count my brother and me playing war in the toy shop.

Yup, somehow my brother ended up ad a star wars fan. Shame on me as a Star Trek fan.

Anyway, the saturday started with me getting a really nice sleep and then driving to CyHerbia a herbal/botanical park. Though it was me who was into the trip once i heard about the Labyrinth...

It was really fun, if we don't count my brother's sulking... Don't ask me the reason. I have no idea :D

Some more pictures from the trip. :D

I really loved this dress...

This stash of pumpkins :D :D

At the start of the maze :D

Somehow at the end of the maze it was me and my brother who came out :D

And of course i found a bicycle to take a picture with :D

Anyway, about the real Halloween, i'll be spending it holed up on my bed watching something interesting :D

Tell me how you will spend your halloween! :)

XOXO

Just Another Random Post #1 Introduction & Weird Storage Place

Morning everyone!

How are you all? Right now i'm in the downtown of Nicosia drinking my Hibiscuis tea and waiting for the bus. I guess you're wondering what's up with this weird post.

Well, let's just say, that initially Katie's Corner was aimed to become a safehouse for all my thoughts, concerns and of course book reviews. However, every time i started a so called random post something just intervined with it... But now, as i'm not posting any reviews due to lack of time to write them (initially it's just lack of time to afterwards cross-post them..) i can write all the random posts in the world :D mu ha ha ha ha

Anyway, you'll be seeing this random feature appear on the blog, so get used to it :D get used to just random stories from passerbys, or me trashing this or that TV-show, you might also see something as random as how to get rod of dead body... Kidding (maybe).

Let me get back to today's story:

I will not say the name of the cafe, to ensure the promose i made not to disclose the secret. (And now you're thinking, wait isn't she doing that?) no i'm not, as i'm not saying where it exactly happened. Okay, so, i was just sitting in one of my favourite cafes, in diwntown nicosia, drinking the tea and looking through some papers, when a grandpa came into the cafe, he went straight to where i was sitting. I didn't really pay attention to him but when he started to take out something from behind the sofa i was sitting on it got a bit confusing. Apparently he has a stash of newspapers there. When i looked at him like he was crazy, he just replied, that some people just take them home and there's no more left for hik or his friends to read; thus the hiding place.

If you ever do come by this hiding plar, please don't take the newspapers!

Has anything similar happened to you? My bus will be in 10 minutes so i need to go to the bus station!

Hope you enjoy tjis rabdom sessions :D

XOXO

Blog Announcement #2 2 Year Anniversary!

Hi Everyone!

How is everything going so far? To say the truth I forgot about my one year anniversary, I nearly did the same with the second one. but thankfully my schedule book never fails to remind me what the day is or what should be posted, and apparently I have even made a small note to this day saying Blog B-Day!

I am quite thrilled as I can't take it to my mind that I've been already blogging and writing reviews for 2 years. It has been a long journey and I am very proud of myself, as I have got to know lots of people bloggers like me, and some fantastic authors!

I am very happy that my reviews are appreciated at least by some, and I am looking forward to work even more, to bring the newest and more compelling reviews to you, so you bookshelf will never know what it means to not have a good book to read!

That's not my cake, and I doubt I'll get any, I'll have to suffice with a bar of Twix and a great book for the day! But well, the hope dies last. If you are somewhere in Georgia (the country) send me a text, Maybe I can celebrate it with someone else :D

and of course there should be a song right? I've been actually listening to this one for the whole day, but today is for the birthday songs so I will try to find one of my favourite ones too.

Birthday song!

Thank you all, for staying with me during these 2 years and I hope to see you on Katie's Corner more often. There's lots of new reviews coming up, and you'll love them.
Maybe...
Probably....
Hopefully....

Keep reading Katie's Corner, so you don't miss your next favourite book or manga! Happy reading!

New Books vs Read Books

Hi Guys,

How's are you all? I hope everything is fine and you have a great summer going on. The thing is that for the last 2 days I had this awkward debate in my head, whether I should read a new book, or should I reread the book which I adore to the core of my being for the 5th time? The new book, is very interesting should i say, and I really got into it when i started it, but still my mind was nagging at me: "But didn't you want to read that book again? You know that you need only one day to read the whole series, and then you can easily get back to the new book!" Yes, my mind is a sadist in every way. Sometimes I'm afraid of it, but that's not the point here. The point was if i lost the internal debate or not.

Well, I've kept strong for 2 days, but i lost the battle last night. In the beginning I was very disappointed in me for not reading the new book first, but as soon as I started the book, i new that i made the right decision. I guess, i haven't even said what book I wanted to read. It's Unearthly Series by Cynthia Hand. I've reviewed the series way back in 2014, and if you want to you can read the reviews for Unearthly (Book 1) and Boundless (Book 3) if you click on them. Have you read this series? Isn't it seriously awesome? Well, for me that is one of the best books about teen romance. And i mean it. The way the love is portrayed between Clara and Tucker.... if you haven't read this book yet, i highly recommend it to read. I've read it for about 3 or 4 time, and it always takes me by surprise.

However, now i just wanted to muss around this topic New vs Read books. I don't know if you have it, but sometimes i have this urge to read something that i have already read, doesn't matter really how many times. And mostly this urge arises when i finished reading a great number of new books. And even if you have tons of other new books to read i just want to read that specific one. sometimes not the whole book, just a part from it. have you ever had it? Sometimes i have it, but sometimes i just want to read something absolutely new. Guess something is affecting my choices all the time.

I remember when i was a kid, i've reread Harry Potter books so many times that i could just recite them, but at the same time, every time i read the book, i found something that i missed. I believe that was the power of J.K. Rowling's writing. However, now that i think more about it, i remember that in my family it was quite a common trait to reread the books that we loved. I mean, we've read Bulgakov's works so many times that we sometimes even had contests if we remember this or that part. I cam to a conclusion that sometimes our brains or even us as people need something that is already familiar. We enjoy learning new things, but at the same time we need to revise what we read or learned in the past. that way we calm ourselves. Well, that's solely my theory, so what do you think about it?

Do you have the similar internal battles like i do. Do you enjoy reading only new books, or you loved you reread your favourites?

XOXO

Katie

My GoodReads Reviews vs My Blog Reviews: Reality and Truth

Hi, Guys!

It's not that usual of me to write this kind of posts, but i think I will start to do it more ofter, otherwise, I will either go nuts or my couch will start having me. Pretty inadequate, I know, but just now I read a message on my GoodReads page, and it actually made me think as to why half of my reviews are not posted there or anywhere else except for my blog. To say the truth, when I write my reviews, I solely write them for myself and my blog, but there are some people who enjoy reading them and I'm extremely happy about that. A big hug and thank you for all my readers!

So, I was talking about my blog reviews and goodreads reviews. You might have seen quite a lot of manga reviews (that's a Japanese comic, for those who not know) on my blog. And the message i got was about them. As to why i do not rate or post reviews on goodreads for mangas. Well, here's the thing. When i write my reviews I combine the whole experience will it be from 2 volumes or 15 into one review and write it like that. The exceptions are the ones that are still ongoing or i haven't found the complete translation of, this time I either make two reviews or only one, depends how i liked the novel.

So, now comes the question and the answer. why don't i rate them? it's pretty hard for me to exclude one volume from the whole. i know i might sound crazy, but it's the same with me with books. If i start reading a trilogy, and i finish it all, without taking a break to write down my thought for each book separately, my agony begins, as I know the whole story and I can't write the review without trying to spoil next or previous books. Does that happen to you? that's why i always try to contain myself from starting the second book right away, but that doesn't always come true.

Therefore i cam to a conclusion! First of all, i will introduce myself first and then you to a feature called MINI REVIEW. I believe it will be a good thing, there will be full reviews of course, but sometimes i will post mini reviews to just give some thoughts on the book or manga. The mini review will be the same format as the normal review, the only difference will be the small 200-300 word review. originally my reviews start from 400 words. The mini reviews will not apply to the books I receive from author in exchange for an honest review. This feature will  apply only to the books I buy myself.

Secondly, during June, i will upload all my reviews on the websites such as Goodreads, Amazon, B&N, Kobo, Itunes, BookDepository, ect. Regarding manga reviews and rating on Goodreads, I will be uploading the reviews to mostly all the volumes in the series, and they will be unfortunately the same, except for those where i will be making 2nd or 3rd review. Also as on my blog i will be including the chapters that volume includes.

I hope these are good news to some, who enjoy reading reviews on Goodreads more that on blogs, so hopefully, you will enjoy reading them :)

Don't miss the new feature that will launch on the 1st of June. both authors and bloggers are highly welcomed to take part. i can't disclose information until next week, i am still waiting for some stuff to be completed!

You can however follow these google docs, and you will get a general idea as to what is going to happen :D :D

Does Grammar Affect Our Income? A Study Conducted by Grammarly

Hello, everyone!

Welcome back to Katie’s Corner! What do I have for you today? Some time ago I was contacted and asked to share this amazing study with you.

Have you ever wondered why the teachers at school were nagging us a lot about grammar and spelling? Well, I remember that period, but then again, it helped me a lot with my writing. Well, you might have wondered, but Grammarly did a study to determine if our grammar and writing affect our income. Interested?

They polled nearly 500 freelance professionals in eight different job categories on e-Lance, an online platform. They review the profiles of freelancers who had received four or five-star ratings from employers to determine whether the accuracy of a freelancer’s profile is related to their credibility, hire-ability and pay.

While checking for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. The study determined that freelancers with the highest ratings had fewer mistakes in all eight categories (Writing & Translation, Admin. Support, Legal, Design & Multimedia, Engineering & Manufacturing, Sales & Marketing, Finance &Management and IT & Programming.

The researchers also found that the better writers tended to earn more money.
Freelance Writers & Translators made the fewer amount of mistakes, averaging 10.1 errors per every 100 words.
Freelancers in the IT & Programming fields fared the poorest, with 19.3 errors per every 100 words.

What do you think how many mistakes do you make on average per 100 words? I want to find out my ones. But knowing me, there might be quite a lot.

Randomness before the sleep

Hi Guys! How's it going? I hope you all missed me and my reviews 😄

I don't know if it is the same for everyone, but my best ideas come to me in the shower or before i fall asleep. And as you can guess i remember only 1/4 of them 😭

Well somehow this is still cirtulating in my brain from yesterday. You may think of me as a sentimental person but i remembered an amazing part from "Spanish Ballad" by Lion Feuchtwanger. Have you read this book? I hope you did and have some good memories from it.

To say the truth i've heard about it from little age from my granny, she was saying that it is one of the greatest stories of love. And she retold me it so many times i kinda knew it by-heart. But then this summer because of an argument i was given the book in flash to read it. And when i finished it, my grandma has a shock of her life when i told her: "I don't really get it. Why is this book the greatest love story ever written?" I think after 5 or 10 minutes of shock she told me: "you should fall in love to understand it!"

If you've read the book you should know that Raquel dies because of her belief in her lover - Alfonso  . What i remembered yesterday was the dialogue between the king of Castille and his right hand. The dialogue takes place after he lost the war and Raquel dies. Alfonso asks his underling why Raquel did not leave the Castle. And the answer is amazing:

"Because you ordered her not to!"

This words had an amazing impact on me when i read them. And even yesterday when i remembered them i was thinking how can a person love the other one to the extent that she will not leave the castle in order to prevent her death, but stay there because her lover told her to wait there for him! 😲😲😲 i don't get it!!!! Do you? If yes please share you thoughts with me!

You can find the book on Goodreads:

Hugs and kisses 😊
