My Thoughts:

Hello everyone and welcome back to Katie’s Corner!  Today I’m starting to cover a dystopian series by Ruth Silver. To say the truth I got the first book via NetGallet a really long time ago. At that time I was really into the whole dystopian, post-apocalyptic world. I do not know what happened, but I didn’t start it right away, and it was by pure luck that I came across it on my phone and started reading it. How so? I wanted to do something, my ipad was out of charge, I somehow forgot my headphones at home, I was out of Wi-Fi zone and as I have no games in my phone my refuge is the kindle app. And while I was scrolling through the downloaded library there was only Aberrant that I haven’t read. So I just started it. I didn’t remember what it was about, so it was something like a mystery for me.

In the very beginning with the whole arranged marriages it reminded me of a book that I dropped – Matched. I actually need to finish it. The book drew me in and held my interest. Even though I started reading it on my phone, before I switched back to the tablet I have read 1/3 of it. I always enjoy reading about dystopian worlds and the new systems. And I’m always intrigued as to how the characters take it that their system is not the best out there. The idea of a vaccine that made women unable to conceive was intriguing and I was really looking forward to see how Olivia and Josh are going to explore that zone in their relationship. But that’s for the future, I hope we will get at least some glimpses.

Overall, the first book is a fantastic beginning to the series. I was really astonished by how much we saw and how much more there’s left to be seen. I was purely disgusted with Haven’s ideology, or I should say their approach to Olivia’s and Josh’s relationship. The whole: “You can choose everyone except him” made me question their brains. I mean, if it was me, I would have approached it a bit differently, with less force and more outcome. But you need to find out what is happening in the book by yourself.

Another thing that made me question everything is when Olivia and Josh meet chancellor Collins. But if I disclose that too, it won’t be fun to read anymore. So I’ll withheld the juicy parts so grab your copy now and have a fascinating ride with the greatly built characters. Enjoy it to its fullest and don’t forget to share your thoughts below! As promised some time ago I’m posting the reviews for all Christina Bauer’s books in Angelbound series. It got a bit out of hand with the reviews, but here I am posting them all in order now. Some mainly Portia (the lasted book) is already live and you can read the review on the blog. Are you ready for book 2? If you haven’t read book one – Angelbound, please visit my blog for review as well as buy links. If you are new to the series: Welcome! You’re about to open a fantastic world in front of you! And if you are a fan, well: Hello, comrade! Nice meeting you! But let me get back to the book the first book ended with Myla – that’s our awesome main character becoming the great scala and banishing Armageddon to Hell for the eternity.

Meet Myla Lewis – a mix of angel, demon and human. In the first book we witnessed her awesomeness as an arena fighter, now its time to get to know her as the Great Scala. Even though quite a lot of time passed between me finished the first book and starting this one, as soon as I started reading the book I knew why I loved both the story as well as he characters especially Myla. The way Myla refuses to send the innocents to Hell and has to battle with a former love rival is awesome. We do see the hot-tempered Myla, but sloe to the ending Myla is starting to act as the rational Scala should act. He disgust with politics and balls is still there, but now she is using her authority some of the times.

One thing that astonished me was the whole marriage talk. It was a bit out of blue for me, though I did know that those two would marry, it was still a shock to read about it early in the book. The book is fast paced and has a lot of action. You’ll see a lot of Cissy, Walker and of course some lovey-dovey moments of Lincoln and Myla. Those two are just fantastic. And the team that they make is a bit too indestructible. Are you ready to once again dive into the “ordinary” life in purgatory? I sure hope you are! You don’t want to miss some new as well as old villains reappear. And I do hope you don’t want to miss the chance to get to Myla a bit close. She’s superb character that I love a lot!

This is the second book in Grave series by Lori Sjoberg. But the first one I read by this author. Somehow I was anticipating a little bit more from it. The story follows a stunning, sexy and resourceful reaper – Ruby Dawson on a luxury Caribbean cruise. For all of the population of the liner it’s a vacation but not for Ruby. She has a job to do and survive the hell aka the cruise. Why? That’s a mystery a reader has to unravel for himself. Everything should be fine, but then Jack comes into her life and turns it upside down. There’s no place to run from him. She is attracted to him, but he has a secret of his own. It’s curse which makes his life unbearable. He wants to get rid of and somehow Ruby is the answer. Will Ruby be able to do her job and save Jack? Is it in her power?

Maybe it was not my cup of tea, but I didn’t get all those amazing vibes from the book. It was average: a good read to keep you occupied, and take your mind off something for a bit, but it got boring in parts. All characters were standard. Well maybe except Dmitry, but mostly they were just telling a story not living in it. And that left me not satisfied. I, myself wanted to dig deeper into their past, understand them more. It was more like giving us a shell of a person, a tiny bit to form some kind of an opinion about him or her, but not to understand him fully. Somehow in the end of the book I still didn’t understand the ultimate motif of the villain which was frustrating.  What I mean is that the existence of the main character is a doing of a villain, and somehow the mystery is still not revealed thought out the book. It was interesting in the beginning, compelling to read further, but when nothing interesting happens in the first half of the book it’s quite annoying and disturbing.

One of the things I always look for in the book is how everything is described and if while reading I can “see” it all in front of my eyes. Somehow I had a little difficulty with that with this book. On one hand I had all the information I needed, but somehow I was just reading the book not experiencing it. I always knew what, when and how was something happening but somehow I had a hard time seeing it all. The book has its good sides too, like dialogues between the characters. They felt real. But somehow the characters and the dialogue didn’t go together. It was like characters were one units and what they spoke completely different.

 To sum up everything, this book is a good one time pick. It takes the mind off current problems and wives an intriguing mystery. It is good to read while you are at your own cruise and serves as a good guide what to and not do. I do hope I didn’t crash your hopes to read this book. I do think that the book is a good read just not my type. Hope you will consider reading it, and will go on an interesting cruise with Ruby and Jack, who knows, maybe you will get sucked into their world more. Happy Reading.

My Thoughts:

In the beginning there was a girl who had a gift, another one who wanted to kill herself and a teacher who wanted to help all of his students. And then came a ghost who seeked vengeance and a boy who wanted to help a girl and everything came crashing down.

The story was just an average ghost story, with a knight in shining armor aka Kevin, dumb girl who thought that the ghost was her soul-mate aka Vivi, a jealous friend aka Danielle and of course the ghost villain aka Patrick and well I guess I forgot the star of this book – Daisy aka a person who is a self charging superhuman. Where all of this came crashing down for me? Somewhere in the middle when I understood what was going to be happening next. Well, putting the book aside did help a lot, but then even after going back to it, my not so happy attitude didn’t change a bit.

My favourite character? None. Well, maybe I even liked Patrick a bit. He was definitely a little bit more interesting to read about. Daisy was too whiny; she was always self-pitying herself because she had a gift. Vivi was too spineless. Danielle? Huh, you just have to read to know about her. And Kevin? Whiny with too much theories.

Mostly I wasn’t all that good struck by the book, but maybe you will and it will become your #1 in the library. I was just stating my mind. Feel free to tell me why you liked it, I am always happy to receive feedbacks. So if anyone is considering the book, Happy Reading. And well, never whine if you have a gift! That’s just pathetic, what should we normal people say??

My Thoughts:

I can't say I didn't enjoy the book. I liked it, and the best thing was that it was short, but it was the worst thing also. There were no stupid out of the book details. Everything was just right. The only thing was that it was a little bit like Alyson Noël's Fated series. But only in parts. And the ending. It came too fast and I really want to know more. What will happen next. Will Lou (that's a girl's name) be able to remember Cooper. And the million dollar question is: "what the hell is really going on in that town?"

Well, I can really agree with Cooper on one thing: it's a crime to name a girl Eloise, no offence guys. But you will like Lou no matter what. She is stubborn in a good way. She values friendship and is not easily swept by prejudices. She tries to listen to everyone first and then choose whom to be friends with. But what if, when you ask everyone the question, they just say he is trouble. That's what sparks our curiosity and of course Lou's too. She falls for him from the first day and even when she learns Cooper's secret she is even more into him and helping him. 

But the best part of the book is the ending, mainly an amazing cliffhanger Sierra leaves us at. I hope you will consider the book and will read it. So, I won't stall you more. I do know that you will be confused at the end, I was, but that's the best part. Not everything is revealed, which leaves us with questions and hopes to faster acquire the second book. Well I am. My Thoughts:

Before I started this book, I had two favourite kick-ass female characters. First one was Della – bad-ass vampire from C.C. Hunter’s Shadow Falls Series and the second one was Koa – half vampire half human/ or so they say from K.N. Lee’s Koa’s Chronicles: Netherworld. Now I have a new favourite bad-ass character, and maybe even a new role model, who knows.

Well, let me tell you more about Myla Lewis. She is a quasi demon, which means that she is half human half demon. She was a tail, is an arena fighter, and she lives in Purgatory. And let’s just say that she is frigging awesome. And you will definitely regret not meeting her. So, I trust you better judgment and ask you to grab your copy now, before there is any left for you, and get lost in this amazing world of Angels, Demons, Quazi Demons, Thrax and Ghouls. All written by an amazing author Christina Bauer.

When I first saw the book on NetGalley, I fall n love with the cover. Isn’t it gorgeous??? I want a poster of it to paste on my bedroom wall. (For those who doesn’t know, I have only postcards and paintings on the walls no posters) And when I read the blurb I was dumbstruck, I was speechless for some seconds, then I just began squealing that I want it. I waited for 3 agonizing days to receive The Approval, and when I got it, I didn’t even care that I haven’t finished the current book, I just started this one. I loved Myla from the first page to the last one. And I really didn’t want to part with her for a time before the second book is published. But unfortunately I had to. But I hope I can be able to have a featured interview with Myla on my blog, and you will get to know her a little bit better.

Why I loved Myla? I loved her for her bravery, stubbornness and wit. And I do think you will love her too. The book is full of mysteries and secrets and when you get to the bottom to all of them, you will be freaking out of your mind, (Okay maybe I exaggerate a bit, but only a tiny bit). You will cheer Myla on her every attempt to find her dad’s identity, and when she does something stupid or extremely dangerous, like beat the crap out of some pompanos jerks of Thrax elite. And well you do really relieve every emotion of hers, that’s of course thanks to amazing style and writing of Christina. Well, you will like and hate Lincoln aka Myla’s love interest. First you will hate his guts, because he really deserves it, he is such a jerk, and then when he finally sees Myla for who she really is and changes that arrogant attitude you will star to like the guy.

I do have to stop, because I can’t even say how great this book is. I am just out of words. So I will just recommend this book to you. And I know you will like it. So, Happy Reading!!!!!! My Thoughts:

Remember the stories of Camelot, King Arthur, Lancelot and Genevrine? Well I myself was raised on a book called “knights of round table”. It was and still is fascinating to hear the legend. And how many movies there have been? Many. I think I have watched the biggest part of them. And now my question to all of you: have you even dreamed or even imagined just for a minute to actually like in such era? Where girls needed escorts, where there was no modern technology? Well, I did, when I was little, now I am not so sure if I want to, why? Hell, I won’t live a day without jeans and shower and tablet and books. Well okay, maybe I will a day but that’s not the point. The point is that:

We are in a dystopian world set up as a Camelot. Okay, first logical question is why, right? Well, I am not sure, but our children or I guess we polluted the world so much, that we created the virus, which mutated and is kind of making cannibals from us, not bad right? Well and to answer the question. A scientist, who was crazy about Camelot and power thought to use this for his advantage. He made a realm like Camelot, but while Camelot was all honey and flowers (as the legends tell us), this one is an opposite, it’s ruled by fear and lies, which go so deep, that your mind will have to proceed really carefully when you read it.

The book is about Zara – a country girl, who is chosen to become Prince Sebastian Hart’s wife. She is whisked away from her normal life into a life of a royal. Her father is taken by virus (yes, the one we or somebody else invented), so she doesn’t have anything to go back to, and every time she is even thinking about an escape the first night Devlan is telling her to think straight and to fight while she is in the castle. What the hell does he want from her right? Hmm… that’s for you to unfold in the book. Well, I suppose everyone remembers the legend about King Arthur, mainly I ask about the love triangle in the legend, and please don’t remember that movie with Kiera Nightly, because they got the triangle so wrong… Anyway, we all remember that Genevrine loves both Arthur and Lancelot? And blah, blah, blah? Well on that happy remainder, I will stop, and give you something to be prepared or rather to think of while reading the book: if we consider Zara as Genevrine, Sebastian as Arthur and Devlan as Lancelot, who do you think Trisha’s Genevrine will choose? Will she be with her husband or her lover? Well, that’s for you to unravel in the date of the publication. But what I wanted to talk about was why some of my favourite names are always associated with crazy villains in books? But I think it won’t be fair of me to talk about it now. So I guess, I will just have to make a separate post for it, what do you think about it? Is it a good idea?

The only thing I will say and that’s (I hope) to make you more interested, is that the idea of Camelot, the perfect realm has always been out there, but sometimes people can’t see wrong from right, and utopia is what we get. The book leaves you thrilled for more, and it sucks you nevertheless. I think you will like it as much as I did. Happy reading, and don’t forget to leave comments. J

My Thoughts:

Who doesn’t like an amazing love story with time travelers in it? Well I do. The book follows Eden to her senior year, when she meets Ryan a newcomer. If I say nothing strange happens, I won’t lie and I won’t be telling the truth. Yes, he is weird. Who doesn’t know what pizza or hamburger is? But everything falls in place when Even finds a book from future in Ryan’s room which is written by her best friend Connor and is about how he has found a habitable planet – Eden. When Eden goes to Ryan and confronts him, it’s a miracle that he tells her everything. That he is from future and his mission is to prevent Connor from finding planet Eden, it’s up to them to change future. But now Eden is asking a question : Does Ryan really like her or is he only using her to be friends with Connor so he can accomplish his mission? Grab your copy now to know the answer to this and more interesting questions.

Eden is amazing character. I liked her very much. But I loved her in the prom scene the most. Isn’t it the most difficult choice to make: to let the ones we love go? I think it is. Because it causes too much pain. But  I loved Eden for her choices. Ryan is also amazing, but I can’t tell you more about him or this review will be full of spoiler, and I really don’t want to spoil this amazing book for you. The characters I disliked the most is Connor, he’s a real asshole and I can’t and won’t change my mind about him. He doesn’t own Eden, why to make scenes about Ryan? I hope you will consider getting this book, because it really is amazing. It is easy and fun to read and it sucks you into it so fast, that you forget the time.
