Summary

Half angels: individuals cursed because of their impure lineage. Tsukimiya is a vampire half angel, and with her companion-of-convenience Hinata, with whom she shares a strained relationship at best, and an antagonistic one at worst, are on a search for the “God’s Book of Prophecy”. The book harbors immense power, and is supposedly the only thing capable of removing the half-blood curse that Tsukimiya and Hinata share.

The problem is that nobody knows if the book’s power is enough to save two people, and neither is willing to share with the other.

My Thoughts

Review covers 32 chapters

When I first was raking up this manga to read I was thinking, this might be a typical vampire story thingy. Though when you are talking about manga the word typical can only be addresses to one genre: Shoujo & Romance. I think I was looking for something similar to “Orange Marmelade” by Seok Woo, but they have absolutely nothing in common except the word supernatural in their genre section.

From the very beginning it started fast, maybe even too fast, but I guess I just didn’t read the summary, so I was missing out a lot of stuff. The author doesn’t solely focus on one particular character, it might be even true to say that even though Tsukimiya is a main character, and she sometimes acts as a supporting one. New volume, new chapter and a new character and all of these new characters are so different that you are lost in them, but no matter how different they may seem, they all have something in common and that is: Greed for power or in other words ambition to become the next God. No, no, I didn’t just make a mistake there. They realy want to become the next god.

The story begins with a half angel Tsukiyama and Hinata seeking a pureblood demon to lift their curse. They do defeat the guy, but due to betrayals from Hinata and a really risky step from Tsukiyama both of them are still left with the curse. So, they now are seeking a book of prophecy and are really hoping, that it will have enough power to lift both of their curses.

What I was really enjoying in this manga is that every character has his/her personal agenda. They do not care who they will align now or betray in the next moment. It’s just like the saying: “means justify the end”. However, there is a bit of romance, mainly between Tsukiyama and Hinata, however, it is always on edge. You never know what is going to happen next. No need to even guess, because the intrigue is so intense, it may drive you to jump pages to then go back because somehow everything got different just in the few pages that you missed.

No matter what I say here, I won’t be able to fully tell you what I think about it, why? First, I haven’t finished it yet, and am desperately searching for next chapters in English. Second, if I started, I wouldn’t have kept it all to myself and would have just spoilt the whole excitement this manga might bring you.

I hope you try it out. 5 volumes are already in English and next two are being released in 2015. Or you can just go to online websites and read it there. Well if you know French you may get all ten volumes. Hope you’ll get the same feelings as I got from reading it.

XOXO

Book Review: Florence by Ciye Cho (Florence Waverley #1)

Summary (from Goodreads)

Title: Florence

Author: Ciye Cho

Publication Date: 1 July, 2012

Publisher:

Goodreads – Amazon – Barnes & Noble

Summary:

Seventeen-year-old Florence Waverley is out of her depth. Literally. Kidnapped and taken below the waves to the mer world of Niemela, she is the ultimate gift for merman Prince Kiren: a human familiar tied to his side. But nothing is what it seems amid the beauty and danger of a dark ocean.

Every Niemelan has a role to play, from the mermaids who weave towers out of kelp to the warriors who fight sea monsters. But in trying to survive, Florence will end up in the middle of a war between the mer and the Darkness. A conflict that will push her between two brothers: Kiren, the charmer inexplicably drawn to both her and the monsters; and Rolan, the loner who has been pushing her away since the day they met. But in order to take a stand--and find out where she belongs--Florence will have to risk it all: her life, her heart... and her very soul.

My Thoughts:

What do I have for you today? If you’ve read the blurb you’ll that we have an underwater romance book today. If you remember, I only read one or maybe two books about mermaids. Not a big fan of them I guess. But I challenged myself and accepted to review this book. Thank you my ever-challenging character to take it up. I had a time of my life on New Year’s Eve while reading it.

No matter which mermaid book I took, it always lacked something as soon as I started reading the description of the mer-people, I knew what was lacking - the reality of the mermaids in the books. However, Ciye Cho does this so expertly that I never doubted him that either Rolan or Kiren were merman. The descriptions were really vivid and the thing with giving mermaids colors was amazing. In the beginning you may get confused who is who, but soon you will be finding yourself engrossed in the book to extent where when your kid brother starts jumping on you and you are not bothered by it in the slightest. (my situation xD)

Another great thing is the intrigue about Florence’s background. I won’t spoil it for you as to who she is, well actually I can’t. I am still lining up my ideas about it. So far the topic of her background was not even broadened. There were some questions as to why she can do this or that, but no-one really looked into it.

I guess I could talk for ages about this book; however, I do not want to accidentally slip something important. So that will be it for today. However do not be mistaken, soon there will be two more reviews coming up, the follow up of this book, I’ve already started reading them, and yep, they are fabulous. Did I hook you up to read it? If so, do not hesitate to get your copy too. Underworld full of mysteries and hot merman are waiting for you to take a dive.

XOXO

Book Review : From Gods by Mary Ting (From Gods #1)

Summary (from Goodreads)

Title:  From Gods

Author:  Mary Ting

Publication Date:  October 17, 2013

Publisher:    -

Summary:

Did you just see a flash of lightning across the sky on a clear sunny day? It’s not from Mother Nature. It is most likely from Mason Grand, swoon-worthy demigod, one of Zeus’s descendants.

Skylar Rome is supposed to be having the best summer ever before she heads off to college. Little did she know, her whole life was about to change while visiting her cousin. Nearly drowning at the beach due to unknown forces, one of the Grand brothers she’d just met, Mason, saves her life. Cool, collected, mysterious, and dangerously good-looking, Skylar is drawn to him from the start. Though she knows he is the type of guy good girls stayed away from, it seems he is always saving her life, and the attraction was inevitable.

Upon meeting the brothers, strange things begin to happen. When she accidentally kills one of the brothers, it throws her life into turmoil, as they search to find the answers. Implausibly, she gets caught up in a world of the decedents of ancient gods, all who have super powers. Not only is her discovery difficult to accept, evil beings are after her. Running out of time and running for her life, she must unravel a mystery. What do they want from her? Forced into a battle set into motion long before she was born, will she find the answers, or will she die trying?

My Thoughts:

This book has been for 2 or 3 months on my wish list on Amazon, so when Christmas came and my mom gave me $50 gift card to buy whatever books I wanted, the first one was this. No matter how many times I tell myself to stop for a little while and not read books based on Greek mythology I simply can’t.

At a glance there is nothing new or unique about the book, but when you read it about 10 minutes (my 10 minutes) you see some new approaches which I myself haven’t seen in other Greek mythology based books. I’ll just make a little list:

  1.             There are no Gods. All of them are dead, so we can’t see their arrogant faces. This is good and bad at the same time. I actually missed them.
  2.             Demigods are only of two lineages – Zeus and Poseidon. At this fact I was a little frustrated, why? I mean, okay Hades, but why Apollo, Athena, Ares and others also didn’t get a chance to have children? That’s unfair.
  3.               Well that’s not unique,. But as always Hades is a main villain., though I do want to say this: why wouldn’t he be? Nobody cares about him and he’s always left out. Though I may say: he’s as cunning as always.
  4.              Hades was reproducing with Medusa. Gross (That was a hint actually xD)

Okay, that’s not my full list, but what actually is quite interesting. I liked the book. It was really interesting to read about. And well I did like how the characters were written. I actually don’t like books written from author’s POV, but that’s totally me, I just can’t sometimes acknowledge their feelings. No matter how well the author can describe it’s not the same when I read it from the character itself. I didn’t really like Skylar. She was an Okay character, I didn’t see her as very strong one. and she was quite whiny and became a lovesick puppy as soon as saw Mason. I don’t like that in characters, but I guess not all feminine characters are strong and Mary Ting just told us that. However I actually liked Mason’s character even though he had his faults. He has his principles and his walls and he was really trying to hold them together. But well I did like that he came around his thoughts and walls.

Okay last this and I’m closing up for today. When I was buying this book, it didn’t say anywhere that it had a sequel. So when I told myself what to read that isn’t a concluding story or a new story with many parts I said why not this one? so when I was left at a cliffhanger in the end and I am quoting: Book2 of From Gods coming soon” I was screaming inside my head (couldn’t wake my little brother) but well now I’m waiting to know what will happen next. Happy Reading! And don’t forget to share your thought!!1 J)

Book Review: Libellus de Numerus by Jim West (Magicae Mathimatica #1)

Summary (from Goodreads)

Title: Libellus de Numeros

Author: Jim West

Publication Date: 30 Oct. 2014

Publisher: Amazon Digital Services

Goodreads – Amazon – Barnes & Noble

Summary:

 What is the missing variable?

Alex, a young precocious girl, mysteriously gets transported to a strange world where Latin and Math combine in formulas and equations with magical effects. With a cruel council leading the only safe city of it's kind in this world, she will have to prove her worth to stay as well as help this city as it is the target for two evil wizards who seek to destroy the city and it's ruling council.

Will the council's mighty army of guardians be enough to repel the onslaught of the two wizards' wrath?

To help the city and also get back home, she will need the help of the greatest mathematician of all time, Archimedes. In a world where math is magic, Alex wishes she paid more attention in math class.

My Thoughts:

Any math and Latin geeks out there? If so, this books is for you. First it is an amazing genre called adventure, do you remember reading Harry Potter? Or Chronicles of Narnia? Well, that’s what I’ve been raised on. Being a math geek has its perks, but after reading this book I got the answer to all my classmates question: “why should we study math?” It’s all around us and we use it every day without even knowing that we use it. It’s fun and you just never get bored of it. (That worked for me.) But let’s talk a bit about the book and what I found interesting in it.

Meet our main character – Alex. To say the truth I saw myself in Alex a lot. She is your average 6th grader, whose parents are always working leaving her a lot alone or making her change living places every now and then. She is a girl, so she often gets this: “you can’t do it, coz you are a girl” thingie. (Really pisses me off, even now.) Alex is this person who has a strong sense of justice ms speaks her mind without caring about consequences. It’s no wonder the bullies tucked her into a closet. But what if that closet lead our heroine to a world different from ours? A world of magic which is based on math and Latin? (Can you please send me there too? I’ll learn Latin, send me there…) sorry for the interlude. Back on track now.

Why was she send there? Well, I have my ideas, but hats off to Jim West for maintaining the intrigue throughout the book, giving us some minor clues about the place and in the end leaving us on a cliffhanger to crave more. Alex meets Archimedes (yes, it’s that guy, the math genius we all studied at school) right away and he makes makes her his assistant. Now Alex has to prove that she has it in her to become a wizard, but at the same time she has to be cautious for there are a lot of enemies out there who do not want her to be. I really enjoyed the interaction between Archimedes and Alex and there were some surprises which made me laugh out loud.

I liked that the author conjured the world which is very interesting and we can learn a lot from it, basically what not to do. The book may be intended for younger audience, however if you are a parent or in your 20s you may still enjoy other parts of it. The idea of the council, the power it wields and of course interaction between parent and child. I think the author wanted to show us how we should act in this or that situation. That sometimes we should look at our children too and that the power given to us by our birth may lead everyone to destruction. You may find council and the City quite old-fashioned, but nevertheless it is what it is. I remember highlighting this words and want to share them now:

“ “… They should still let people live in the city if they can’t defend themselves, especially of they’ve worked their whole lives for it. They ought to have a right to a peaceful life,” Alex said following.
“And who told you that?” “No one, really. That’s just the way it is where I’m from” “ then you’re either privileged to be able to live free, or naïve in thinking everyone lives peacefully. Maybe both,” Archimedes said."

Those words actually had quite an impact on me, and I hope they will on you too when you read the book. To say the truth, when I first opened the book, I was thinking it would have a lot of math and Latin, however, it was a lot of fun and at the same time very instructive to read. I’m definitely getting next book. Really want to know as to why such world was ever conjured.

I suppose that after reading this book I saw math in another way, and if by any chance you have a kid who doesn’t like math, read this book to him/her, at least the kid will see math differently. I am not being a sexist here, but, yes, we girls can also be good at science. If you like it and want to do it, do it, get it our to the world. I hope you found this review helpful and will follow Alex on her journey through the wold of math and Latin. Enjoy it to the fullest and get your own copy of Libellus de Numerus to try to think of some new formulas and make the world a better place to live.

Synopsis:

Five minutes until the interview begins.

Fresh on the heels of her college graduation, Cameron Heart has landed an interview at a prestigious architecture firm.

Four minutes until the interview.

She knows she’s only there because the owner, Grayson Cole, is her older sister’s friend.

Three minutes.

For the last seven years, Grayson has been the most intimidating man Cammie has ever had the pleasure, or displeasure, of being around.

Two Minutes.

But the job opportunity is too good to pass up. So, Cammie will have to ignore the fact that Grayson is handsome enough to have his own national holiday.

One.

After all, she shouldn’t feel that way about her new boss. And, he will be her new boss.

…

“I’m not scared of you,” I said with a confident smile.

“Perhaps we should fix that, Ms. Heart. Close the door.”

Excerpt:

I had a feeling that once I left his office, I’d never hear him speak of it again. I’d probably convince myself that I’d made the whole thing up in a weeks’ time.

“And Cameron,” he spoke, forcing me to pause as my hand hit the door knob. I turned my head to look back at him, hope brimming through every pore. His eyes locked with mine as he continued, “It’s not Grayson. It’s Mr. Cole. I’m not your friend while you’re here.”

I bristled at his reprimand. There he was. The formal prick. He wanted to put me in my place, but I knew his secret now. You can’t just turn attraction off like a light switch. I may have had torn tights and smudged make-up, but I was the same girl I’d been for the last twenty-two years. Which meant, deep down, Grayson was still attracted to me. A small smirk unfolded across my lips as I realized the power that knowledge gave me.

“And what about when I’m not here?” I asked, tilting my head to the side and staring into his blue eyes with more confidence than I’d felt all morning.

Manga Review : Unmasked Noice by Ryouko Fukuyama

Title: Unmasked Noice
Original Title: Fukumenkei Noise
Author: Ryouko Fukuyama
Artist: Ryouko Fukuyama

Year of Release: 2013
Genres: Comedy, Drama, Gender Bender, Romance, Shoujo

Status: Ongoing
Chapters (Translated in English): 23

Volumes & Chapters: 4 Volumes in total

Summary

Nino is a girl who harbours feelings her friend Momo. Just when she can no longer suppress her feelings, she encounters a boy who composes music..., and what is the promise Nino made to a boy she met who composes music?

My Thoughts

Review covers 23 chapters.

I think this particular manga has been on my to-read list for at least half a year. Somehow, I always found other things to read or just plainly ignored it. And now for some reason, it is the very first one to be reviews on my blog. Fate? I don’t know about that. But as soon as I took up this manga the first 22 chapters went so fast I couldn’t believe myself, and then I was waiting for about 2 weeks for the next chapter to be translated. Now I have to wait for even more…

First let’s talk a bit about the plot. I think the summary doesn’t give us a lot, but at the same time it intrigues enough to start reading. Let’s say we have three main characters: Nino, Momo and Yuzu (Nino is a girl and Momo and Yuzu are guys). Nino and Momo are childhood friends, who are very, very fond of each other. They are always together doing stuff and especially sing different songs. Because of some circumstances Momo’s family has to move away and those two promise each other that their singing will be the sign to bring them together in the future.

Now, you’ll think total childhood friendship cliché. Well, sorry, to disappoint you. Because those two were inseparable, when Nino is left alone, she is suffering a lot. Because of loneliness she wants to scream and in order to stop her soul to scream out loud she starts to wear a mask over her mouth. Everything would have been amazing, or kind of, if she didn’t meet a boy called Yuzu one day when she had he breakdown. And so he asks her to sing his songs when she is having her breakdowns. Long story short, something again happens and Nino is left alone again, but now, she is singing when she wants to scream. Several years pass and now all of our main characters are high school students, but are they the same? Could it be that Nino can be reunited with Momo? Or something absolutely different is awaiting her? That’s for you to find out if you start reading this manga.

Now, a bit about the style of the manga and why I chose this particular one for today. I have read another work by Ryouko Fukuyama, Monochrome Kids, though it is still being translated in English and I am thinking of reading it in German. I can say with utmost certainty that if somebody would have told me a year ago that I will be reading and understanding manga, I would have laughed. To say the truth I’ve tried one about 5 years ago. For me it was just some pictures and words, I was always confused from where to start reading. I just wasn’t having fun. I don’t know what, but somehow around a year ago everything changed. I got a taste of ut and I liked it. But even now sometimes I’m lost when I am reading manga about music or arts. The author has to express his ideas and emotion through black & white world of drawings and words.

When I was reading Unmasked Noise, I felt all the characters to the extent that I thought they were real, that they lived around me. I got why they are so stupid, but the best part was that I was really feeling the music through the pictures and it was amazing. I think it was as if I was listening to the screams and songs while reading. I only had the same experience with Chiba Kozue’s Crayon Days, where through black & white I actually was seeing all 24 colors of palette. I guess, the next time I will write about that one.

When I was reading Unmasked Noise, I was on edge every time. I was intrigued by everyone’s past and was cheering them on their future. The characters are portrayed as real people, they are not the best people in the world, nor are they the worst. They are just people; they are high school students, who have their own dreams, fears, expectations and obligations. They are in love, but they all have to forget that feeling for the time being, first is to show each other that they are there, that their voices can reach their loved one hearts.

I really hope that this review was at least a bit helpful, I tried not to spoil (which was quite hard, because I want to say so much more). I guess I will just write another review when all the chapters are translated and I finish reading them. Christmas is just in a few days. Have great holidays and have fun!

XOXO

Randomness before the sleep

Hi Guys! How's it going? I hope you all missed me and my reviews 😄

I don't know if it is the same for everyone, but my best ideas come to me in the shower or before i fall asleep. And as you can guess i remember only 1/4 of them 😭

Well somehow this is still cirtulating in my brain from yesterday. You may think of me as a sentimental person but i remembered an amazing part from "Spanish Ballad" by Lion Feuchtwanger. Have you read this book? I hope you did and have some good memories from it.

To say the truth i've heard about it from little age from my granny, she was saying that it is one of the greatest stories of love. And she retold me it so many times i kinda knew it by-heart. But then this summer because of an argument i was given the book in flash to read it. And when i finished it, my grandma has a shock of her life when i told her: "I don't really get it. Why is this book the greatest love story ever written?" I think after 5 or 10 minutes of shock she told me: "you should fall in love to understand it!"

If you've read the book you should know that Raquel dies because of her belief in her lover - Alfonso  . What i remembered yesterday was the dialogue between the king of Castille and his right hand. The dialogue takes place after he lost the war and Raquel dies. Alfonso asks his underling why Raquel did not leave the Castle. And the answer is amazing:

"Because you ordered her not to!"

This words had an amazing impact on me when i read them. And even yesterday when i remembered them i was thinking how can a person love the other one to the extent that she will not leave the castle in order to prevent her death, but stay there because her lover told her to wait there for him! 😲😲😲 i don't get it!!!! Do you? If yes please share you thoughts with me!

You can find the book on Goodreads:

Hugs and kisses 😊
