My Thoughts

Review covers 1 chapter

One of the many one shots that I’ve fallen in love after reading only once. I guess up till now, I’ve read it about 10 maybe even more times. However, it never loses its charm to me.

When I first read the story, it had a really big impact on me. I really loved both characters. It may have been only about 20 or so pages, but you could see that character development. I really am a fan of Takagi Shegeyoshi’s works; I think I’ve read everything I could get my hand on. You can’t say that his drawing style is that amazing, but all of his characters have this sharp facial features and you may seem they are extremely cold, but then they either smile or open their eyes and warmth is spreading all over the page and you. It is quite an amazing feeling.

The last pages of the story are quite heartbreaking, though it does end happily there is a question regarding the relationship between the main characters. For me, it didn’t seem that he really accepted her feelings or something, neither did he stated his own, but well, he did say that from now on she has to read books aloud to him. The story mostly follows the Yae’s point of view and we do not really see the pain that Ayase feels, however when he tells Yae his secret, everything can be seen through his bittersweet smile. It’s really heartbreaking, well it was for me. I do encourage you to read this short story, it really is amazing. Enjoy it and if you do read it, please share your thoughts with me.

XOXO

Brooke:
I’ve come from a privileged life and an even more privileged upbringing. My parents taught me right from wrong and everything in between… except I wanted the gray area. I wanted to live life on the edge with the possibility of falling over. I didn’t care about the consequences because I had no heart…
I left that on the floor of my parent’s bedroom door, shattered.
And never went back to pick up the pieces.
Devon:
     Family first.
I learned the meaning of the word hate.
I learned that life is a battlefield and I stood frontline.
I learned that praying doesn’t work and God doesn’t listen.
And I learned how to be a man…
All at the receiving end of my father’s fists, my mother’s tears, and my sisters screams.
Youcan’t run away from your past…
It will always find you, especially when you’re asleep.
Warning: Book contains adult situations.
Sex/language. Mature readers only.
I looked around the room and although it was classy and refined, it didn’t feel homey. It felt cold and detached and I made my way over to stand in front of the bay window. The view was breathtaking.
It was then that I realized this wasn’t a place to sleep.
It was a place to fuck.
“Thisisn’t your home, is it?”
“No,” she murmured in my ear, behind me.
“I see.”
“It’sMadam’s.”
“Where do you live?”
She handed me my drink and took hers down in one gulp, placing the empty glass on the table. She moved to stand in front of me and leaned against the bay window. The lighting made her look like an angel.
“Don’t worry about it,” she stated, reaching up and unclasping her hair. It flowed loosely and she shook it out, making it fall right in front of her face. I knew she did it on purpose.
Hiding.
I let her have her security.
For now.
“I thought you want to play, Devon?”
I laughed. “Bambi, I couldn’t afford you,” I blurted without thinking and her eyes widened with a mixture of hurt and confusion, but just like before it was gone before it even fully appeared.
“What if I don’t want you to pay?” she offered surprised with her own words.
“Does it work like that? Kinda like a drug dealer, huh? Give the first sample for free and have me coming back for more?” I teased, trying to break the intensity of our stares.
Now it was her turn to laugh. “Something like that. So are you going to take me up on my offer?”
“What’s in it for me?”
“The time of your life.”

My Thoughts

Review covers all chapters

I actually stayed up all night to finish this manga. Why I chose it? No idea, I was roaming on youtube some of my favourite videos and somehow the video about thi manga came up. I liked it, and because it was made as an anime I made a tick in my brain to watch it some other time. Howeve, after getting back from my friend’s place at about 1 a.m. and starting with absolutely different book to read, something clicked in my brain and I said, I want to read this one right now. I started it, and when I finished it, it was already 7 in the morning.

Even though this manga was written about 15 years ago and depending that all old mangas have a really specific drawing, this one had a quite modern approach to many facial features. The story is about a girl who has nothing special and then she gets asked to be a model for a group of very extravagant cloths designers. The story has many ideas which are great for teens. It covers that period of our lives when we have no freaking idea as to what we want to do, and everyone is just saying: “Study, study, study, get into a uni and you’ll figure it out”. But what if we do not know what we want to even study? Well, meet our heroine – Yukari, she is just like all of us who did not know what we wanted to do when we were 17 or 18.

If you have read at least 2 shoujo mangas, there is a specific patterm. The girl always stays with the very first guy she falls in love with. Well, here’s your disappointment. The first time I saw breaking of that pattern in “Daytime Shooting Star”, but then I read Paradise Kiss and to my utter disappointment she doesn’t stay with George. But then here what I tried to think, wasn’t he her second love? Then the pattern wasn’t broken right? However, the first guy – Tokumori, he only saw her when she got pretty or something. So we can’t really say anything. And well even though I like the Yukari and George pair, somehow George was not a really boyfriend material if you ask me. I think I’m getting tangled up in my thought.

Why I think thus us a good manga? It teaches us, that not all of us know what our dreams are, and that we should not be discouraged by that. We can find them in quite abnormal situations, but my advice to you: If you found something that you like and want to do it your whole life. Try making that dream into a reality, but try not to go overbroad, but be who you are.

I hope you will get your own copy and it will give you some insight into a lifestyle of a highschool girl. It may seem that you will find yourself in Yukari. Enjoy 48 chapters of amazing life portrayed by Yazawa Ai.

XOXO

Book Review : Beholden to You by Carlie Sexton

Title:  Beholden To You

Author:  Carlie Sexton

Summary:

On the heels of tragic loss, the stunning and innocent Natalie Mason, meets handsome business mogul Mac Carter. As Natalie attempts to pick up the pieces of her shattered life, circumstances beyond her control draw her and Mac into a situation she wants kept secret. The two are a matched set having both experienced immense loss in their lives. But the past, who often times takes no prisoners, rears its ugly head in a double dose. Mac’s ex-girlfriend cannot accept that their love affair is over and takes drastic measures through deception and blackmail to ensure that Mac will be hers.

Natalie, on the other hand, has to face the one responsible for her sister’s death. As her journey begins to bring justice and closure, the past transports to her feet an unexpected surprise—a long lost love desiring to posses her as his once again.

Will Mac and Natalie’s newly blossoming love be able to endure what the past has delivered or will the victors of their hearts be the old flames who are staking their claim?

My Thoughts:

So how many of you have seen “Once in Vegas”? Well, the plot is kind of the same here, but it takes amazing twists and in the end you are heartbroken because you need to say goodbye to some amazing characters, but at the same time you are happy because everything ended just fine. The book is based on very interesting characters with their heartbreaks betrayals and some very raw emotions. Somehow all characters are at sync with each other. And even though, I would have wanted to know more about some of them, after finishing the book, I was just full with emotions. I liked all pages, all banter and interaction between characters and I definitely felt their pain. Maybe I wasn’t exactly living the book, but I had a very strong and undeniable connection with Natali and Mac.

The story follows Natali, a young and beautiful woman. She has lost her parents, her heart has been crashed by her first love and her sister was just killed in a car crash. But no matter what Natali puts the happiness of her two best friends- Kate and Charlie before her, and she attends a engagement party/weekend of both of them in Vegas, but unexpected happen, and one morning she wakes up near Mac, a best friend of her bff-s fiancés and well they are married. From then all the “fun” starts. Both of them like each other, and they understand each other’s grief. So now it is only up to them to live together or have an annulment. What will they choose? And most interesting, how will they react when their past is again coming after their lives? Will they open up their hearts to be left broken again, or will they achieve their happily ever after? It’s all up you-reader to know. You can either grab your copy now and share some of those emotions with amazing characters, or keep guessing. Your choice.

I hope you are scrolling up the post to buy links, so well. I won’t jeep you waiting, happy reading. And don’t forget to share your thoughts.

XOXO
