ARC Review: The Queen's Vow by Tori Chase (Ruthless Games #2)

The Queen's Vow (Ruthless Games #2)The Queen's Vow by Tori Chase
My rating: 🍁 🍁 🍁 🍁 / 🌢🌢.5

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Before I delve into my review, let me give a small background for those who would like to start the book. First of all, while it is part of the series, you can read it as a standalone. (personally, I would not suggest it, as while you do get a small recap of what happened, the first book was simply amazing and you should not skip it!). If you are wondering, you can read my review of the first book HERE.

I loved the first book, but I had this feeling that something was missing. Okay, personally for me I wanted Julian to be part of the harem like right away, and the second book gives me that exactly. It was as if the author heard all those who wanted Jules to get together with Becca and made it happen. Plus this time we get something like a full closure, so it was great!

But let's dig in shall we?

~ Characters ~

Rebecca. This time she disappointed me a bit. Back in the first book one of my issues with her was how fast she was giving herself to the guys, and this issue happened here as well. She jumped into bed with Jules a bit way too fast. More torment on her side would have been appreciated. Taking into account that for some her relationship with Jules would be considered cheating on her current lovers. Did I consider it as such? Honestly, I'm not sure. From one side I understood her attraction to Jules, but as I have said more torment of her adding him to the harem would have given her character more depth.

Anthony. My resident psycho is still my favourite! No questions asked. Though I probably would have liked to see some kn!fe play, as he did mention that he liked to use his knives on flesh rather than cutting vegetables.

Giancarlo. I was waiting for him to join Anthony and Sebastian in their fun! Like honestly, chapter 28 rolls in, and there's me reading it in anticipation and him contemplating about it... (but whether he joins or not, or gets MM action of his own that's on you to find out, I'll just be a major tease).

Sebastien. Still not my favourite. He did grow out of his drama queen stage, especially when you get to mid-book, and you don't know where to look while reading that spicy scene, but that didn't help my initial impression of him.

Julian. The newest addition to Becca's harem. Now he was an interesting character. An FBI agent that wanted to protect the mafia queen he loved! I might have not liked how he and Becca had their first time, but when he took charge of the situation closer to the end, yeah, he proved that he was a valuable addition to her men!

~ Plot ~

The reason, the review got 4 leaves, is because I didn't like how the whole mystery about Becca's hitman unrevaled. It was kind of rushed. While my initial idea was definitely cliche, I still believe that the older generation should have been eliminated somehow. Like there were too many clues on their involvement, and I was waiting for them to be brought to light and our princes to assume their role. But nevertheless, it was a good way to unravel the situation, even if it was a bit rushed.

I am still certain there was a mole in FBI, like honestly, the Bennet and Fowler dude were acting up too shady!

Overall I did enjoy the book. The spice was great, but then again would have liked it to be more descriptive at some parts (and as mentioned previously some more kinks would have been awesome). Oh, and wait until you get to chapter 28! The spice was soooo good!

XOXO

Katie
