Book Review: Everbound by Brodi Ashton (Everneath #2)

Summary (from Goodreads)

Title: Everbound

Author: Brodi Ashton

Publication Date: 22 January 2013

Publisher: Balzer + Bray

Summary:

Nikki Beckett could only watch as her boyfriend, Jack, sacrificed himself to save her, taking her place in the Tunnels of the Everneath for eternity — a debt that should’ve been hers. She’s living a borrowed life, and she doesn’t know what to do with the guilt. And every night Jack appears in her dreams, lost and confused and wasting away.

Desperate for answers, Nikki turns to Cole, the immortal bad boy who wants to make her his queen — and the one person least likely to help. But his heart has been touched by everything about Nikki, and he agrees to assist her in the only way he can: by taking her to the Everneath himself.

Nikki and Cole descend into the Everneath, only to discover that their journey will be more difficult than they’d anticipated — and more deadly. But Nikki vows to stop at nothing to save Jack — even if it means making an incredible sacrifice of her own.

In this enthralling sequel to Everneath, Brodi Ashton tests the bonds of destiny and explores the lengths we’ll go to for the ones we love.

Apparently Brodi Ashton’s books are the reason I had an enjoyable flight back to University. I read the first book while going home and the second when I was returning. I’m wondering when will I read the third one as well as the short story? But let’s forget that and that and focus on today’s book if you have yet to start reading this series I advice you to start right away, but before check the review for the first book Everneath on my blog. If you have already started the series, well you know what’s going on…

I apologize beforehand if I’m going to spoil some major things by the time I finish the review. *bows. But we should start. First of all, let’s remember where we were left off. Nikki our main character had to end up in the tunnels of Everneath aka underworld to become something like an eternal battery. Though she did have a choice; she could have accepted Cole – an everliving and become one herself and live with forever and maybe even become the next queen of the underworld. But no, she chose love over all of that ad her boyfriend – jack ended up taking her  place in the tunnels. An of course as a true heroine she vowed that she would bring him back. Will she? That’s what the second book is about. However, I would like to focus on Cole this time.

In this book he doesn’t really act as a villain, thought you might argue about that if e take into consideration the ending. But let me be clear on one thing: I’m 110% team Cole and I’m totally shipping these two together. Why? Don’t ask me, I just do! He’s an awesome character that truly wisher for love and I hope he gets it in Nikki. He’s cunning, but as the saying goes all means are acceptable in love and war. He just chooses the ones that lead to difficulties.

I’m really pumped to see how Nikki is going to bring Everneath down and I truly hope she ends up with Cole. they have the pull and they are awesome together. Of they don’t I’m pretty sure I will have a mourning week maybe even a month… enjoy it to your fullest and don’t forget to share your thoughts below! Stay tuned for more reviews as well as promos. Don’t miss your next favourite book or manga! Happy reading!

Review covers 33 chapters

This story got totally randomly on my to-read list and has been there for more than 4 months until one night I just started reading it out of blue. I finished it in less then 3 hours and loved it a lot. It has an interesting concept and the ending quite sucked, because it didn’t quite show if Kippei ended up with Kokoro-chan. Though I sure hope it was implied. Because if not, I’m booking a plane ticket to Japan to band on the author’s door to know the truth.

The story is fantastic. It shows how our lives can be changed in a matter o a minute. One day you are a normal high school student who’s very frivolous with girls, but then one day a 5-year-old appears on the porch of your house and your sister puts you in charge of taking care of her. Fun? As if! You get tons of problems because of her. You’ll have to learn how to cook, take care of a kid and eventually you’ll find the person who will be closest to you in the future. Are you ready to get to know Kippei? Our frivolous guy who is taking care of his cousin? He’s a fantastic character, that I really enjoyed. I also loved Kokoro-chan, Kippei’s love interest. She’s awesome, she reminded me of myself a lot, but I have yet to fall in love.

Enjoy this romantic, yet tragic in some cases story. You’ll get to see what it means to be a parent and you need to read closely as there will be lots of issues that you have to know about! Enjoy it to your fullest and don’t forget to share your thoughts below! Stay tuned for more reviews as well as promos. Don’t miss your next favourite book or manga! Happy reading!

Review covers 6.5 chapters

Hi, everyone and welcome back to Katie’s Corner! Today I have something short but very awesome for you. I have read it twice and both of the times loved it. It’s true I’m a total sucker for hot boys in the books and especially comics, therefore, me ogling them on my walls crept out pretty much all of my previous boyfriends. Okay, I guess I’m going off the topic right now, but who cares. *sobs

I remember I started reading the story because I liked the title. But then again who wouldn’t it’s quite short and the plot may not be all that unique: parents get married so now newly appointed siblings have to get along. But what f they do not want to be siblings? Yup, that’s a short summary of the story, but as I have mentioned the art is just too fantastic to be real, therefore, don’t get mad if you’ll have problems reading older manga later. I had for a short time as I knew that there is much better art out there.

However, this story made me think about the whole siblings relationship. I mean, in the past the incestuous relationships is some countries were quite okay. However, if you look at our case, Shiori and  Miyumu are not fully siblings, they have different mother and father, therefore, will it be okay if they marry? They are siblings only because their parents got married, therefore from the paperwork they are the siblings… see… I’m totally confused. What do you think?

Book Review: Everneath by Brodi Ashton (Everneath #1)

Summary (from Goodreads)

Title: Everneath

Author: Brodi Ashton

Publication Date: 24 January 2012

Publisher: Balzer + Bray

Summary:

Last spring, Nikki Beckett vanished, sucked into an underworld known as the Everneath. Now she’s returned—to her old life, her family, her boyfriend—before she’s banished back to the underworld . . . this time forever. She has six months before the Everneath comes to claim her, six months for good-byes she can’t find the words for, six months to find redemption, if it exists.

Nikki longs to spend these precious months forgetting the Everneath and trying to reconnect with her boyfriend, Jack, the person most devastated by her disappearance—and the one person she loves more than anything. But there’s just one problem: Cole, the smoldering immortal who enticed her to the Everneath in the first place, has followed Nikki home. Cole wants to take over the throne in the underworld and is convinced Nikki is the key to making it happen. And he’ll do whatever it takes to bring her back, this time as his queen.

As Nikki’s time on the Surface draws to a close and her relationships begin slipping from her grasp, she is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: find a way to cheat fate and remain on the Surface with Jack or return to the Everneath and become Cole’s queen.

Everneath is a captivating story of love, loss, and immortality from debut author Brodi Ashton.

Wow! This was fantastic. But before I tell you what I loved so much about this book, let me take us 2 years back. Why so long? In essence, this book has been on my top to read list for the last 2 years, maybe even more. However, one thing followed another and I just refused to start this book. guess, I had the hunch it would be pretty awesome… okay, so now you are wondering, how come I actually read it? It’s a pretty normal story in my life. I was returning back home from Bucharest and I wanted something to read. I had tons of other books to read. One of the first should have been Oliver Phipps’s new book: Bitter Harvest, but as always something overcame me and I just started reading it. I couldn’t’ stop until I finished it 4 hours later…

So, what made me chuckle, grin and even exclaim a bit in the plane? The story might be your another Hades and Persephone story, however, this time everything is a bit more difficult. Another thing that made me fall in love with the story is author’s writing style, and especially the way she moves back and fourth from past and present. You might think it’s hell of confusing, but no, it just gives you tons of new information to process and think who you are shipping Nikki with. Me? I’m totally team Cole. it’s true that he’s the least likable character there as he acts as the “villain” for the time being. But I really fell in love with the guy and I really want him to get Nikki. They are awesome together and she makes him a better person!

I hope you’ll find some times to read this great book, and if you have already read it, tell me your thoughts about it! I’m off to read the next book as I really want o know how it’s going to end! Enjoy it to your fullest and don’t forget to share your thoughts below! Stay turned for more reviews as promos. Don’t miss your next favourite book or manga! Happy reading!
